Men and women of the United States Marine Corps have proudly carried several flags since the American Revolution. Today’s standard scarlet flag has been proudly flying during Marine Corp missions and ceremonies since 1939.

The United States Marine Corp flag is comprised of an eagle, globe, and an anchor designed in gray and gold emblazoned on the scarlet background. It also bears an eagle holding the motto ribbon from its beak bearing the words, “Semper Fidelis,” and a flowing scroll below bears, “United States Marine Corps.”

A brief history of the United States Marine Corps flag is the icons eagle, globe, and anchor emblem have been part of its iconography since 1868. The colors scarlet and gold have been official colors of the United States Marine Corps as early as 1925.

Not only is the Marine Corps flag flown during ceremonies and installations, but also hangs in the offices of the President of the United States, Secretary of Defense, Secretary of the Navy, and the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
